Sketching The Rainbow

-written while attending a class in college (august '09)
There are colors and there are shades,
Do they say anything or are just tools of facade,
Science says they have different meanings,
Dark, light, reflecting, absorbing,
We feel black, we feel white,
On being on the wrong or the right,
We feel, blue, yellow, gray,
Red with joy and with gay,
With so many colors and shades,
We are still judged with grades,
Either you are black or you are white.
Can’t anyone be blue? or brown?
They all carry a sheet to rate us,
They all love to berate us,
Force us to be on the white,
But who decides which white is white?
For lovers pink is white,
For a black mother, black is white,
If so many colors can be white,
Then why do we run for white,
Why can’t we choose our own white?
Be it pink, purple, green, gray they all be white!
